Top 10 Copyright Rulings of 2016

Every year, Law 360 publishes their Top 10 copyright cases from the past year. Music, film, art and entertainment are often involved in copyright cases, which is why they can gain media attention both locally and nationally.

In 2016 for example, the famous song “Stairway to Heaven” was brought into question. Led Zepplin coined the song in 1971 and it has been a staple in the rock and roll world since—in fact, the song itself was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

While the name Led Zepplin carries significant weight in our popular culture, they are not the only “big-name” on the top copyright cases list. A number of individuals and companies litigate every year to own their IP and work. The top cases, while incredibly important, are only a fraction of copyright disputes what arise every year.

We hope you enjoy reading about some of your favorite artists, companies and works!
